County Director of Sports Nicholas Busienei has disclosed programs that are engineered to further nurture and grow sports talents in Uasin Gishu County.
Speaking as he graced a multi-sports Sunday at Uasin Gishu Primary, Busienei said the Governor’s Cup tourneys are geared at identifying and growing talents right from the grassroots.
Mr Busienei said the plans are inspired by the fifth pillar of Nguzo Kumi in Governor Dr Jonathan Bii’s governance plan. The Governor’s Cup (football) tourney will soon get into the Sub-County championships.

Through the Department of Sports, the County Government usually invites sports managers to scout for talents during Governor’s Cup tourneys. About four youth volleyballers from Uasin Gishu landed themselves job opportunities and play for top clubs, talents identified in 2023.
On Sunday, the Football Kenya Federation’s Uasin Gishu branch men’s and women’s league matches, Uasin Gishu basketball league matches, and volleyball friendlies were played in Uasin Gishu Primary Grounds.
