COUNTY WORKING WITH CLUBS TO EXPAND SPORTS

The County Government of Uasin Gishu is working with sports training camps and clubs to grow and expand sports excellence in the region.

Speaking as she visited Completes Sports Club in Kaptagat on Thursday, County Sports Executive Eng. Lucy Ng’endo said the County Government is ready and willing to support efforts to grow and nurture sports.

Eng. Ng’endo said the extension of the olive branch seeks to ensure that Uasin Gishu and Kenya grow multi-sports talents.

She noted that Kenya finished 17th in the Paris Olympic Games standings because it did not participate in as many disciplines, noting the plan seeks to turn this around.

“Let us work together for the betterment of sports in our county and country at large. How we excel at the international stage is a pride for all of us.”

“As a County, we will not mind if a club proposes for the County Government to build or lay concrete for a basketball court, and anything else,” said Eng Ng’endo.

County Director of Sports, Nicholas Busienei said the Department is working closely with the County Sports Council for technical advisory and collectively to grow sports in the County.

Bishop Luka Maiyo, who is the chair of Complete Sports Athletics Camp, said discipline and faith are the recipes of excellence in sports and life in general.

Chair of Athletics Kenya’s Uasin Gishu branch, Joseph Boit, said stakeholders including the government need to work with training camps in charge to reclaim titles that Kenya has lost in global athletics. Similar sentiments were shared by former world champion of 800 metres, Japheth Kimutai, the founder of Complete Sports.

Assistant Director of Sports, Viola Korir and Faith Koech from the Sports Office, were some of the senior officers who flanked the County Executive.

Meanwhile, a Chinese Company, Sinohydro China Power, has taken over the construction of Eldoret’s Kipchoge Stadium.

The company is working to complete the 30,000-seater facility, whose works are expected to be complete, ahead of East Africa’s joint hosting of the 2027 African Cup of Nations.
