The County Government of Uasin Gishu is continuing with empowerment mechanisms aimed at boosting various economic ventures for the county’s women in trade and enterprise to realize an inclusive and dynamic economy.
Speaking on Thursday during the launch of the women-led Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises(MSMEs) training program while representing the County Executive for Trade and Cooperatives, Martha Cheruto, Trade Director Isaac Lagat emphasized the role played by the women in MSMEs as central in the county’s economic fabric.

The women entrepreneurs, 30, selected from across the county runs, among other economic activities, agro enterprises, informal markets, manufacturing units and service businesses key in household welfare, local value chains, and job creation.
Lagat called on them to use the opportunity, learn new skills that would see them manage and grow their businesses better, and serve as multipliers of economic opportunities in their communities.
“You’re our ambassadors, and we urge you to go and disseminate the same information to other women in business so that you grow together,” said Lagat.
He also said the training will help them overcome challenges such as limited access to finance, restricted market linkages, and gaps in business development support.
On matters of the governor’s pillar number four on trade, Lagat added that the pillar catalyzes local enterprise by investing in grassroots innovation and unlocking value through entrepreneurship.
The training areas touched on business development and value addition, financial literacy and management, leadership and advocacy, and market access, among others.
