The County Government of Uasin Gishu intensified its efforts to enhance financial accountability and efficiency on Tuesday through a high-level review meeting on finance and budgeting for government projects and activities.

The meeting brought together all departmental accountants and procurement officers to deliberate on budget implementation and procurement processes.

Speaking during the session, County Secretary Philip Meli underscored the critical role of finance and procurement officers, noting that their expertise is essential in ensuring the smooth implementation of county projects.

“You are the people with the necessary experience, and we must work together to ensure that our plans are executed effectively,” he said.

Meli emphasized the need for officers to align procurement plans with approved budgets, urging them to harmonize their operations to avoid inconsistencies. He further called on the team to develop a comprehensive report that will strengthen governance and promote consistency in financial management, terming the meeting an eye-opener.

County Executive Committee Member for Finance, Micah Rogony, reiterated the importance of prudent financial management and highlighted the need for improved budget absorption across departments. He also recognized top-performing departments based on their absorption rates, encouraging others to emulate their performance.

CCEMs Janet Koech (Health Services) and Sam Kottutt (Agriculture) emphasized that prudent financial management is key to strengthening service delivery across the departments.

Chief Officer for Finance, Eliud Chemaget, challenged officers to intensify their efforts to meet targets across all revenue streams, stressing the importance of maximizing local revenue collection.

Meanwhile, Chief Officer for Economic Planning, Cheplong, assured departments that they will receive their financial allocations as outlined in the supplementary budget to support efficient service delivery.
