COUNTY SEEKS AFFORDABLE AGROCHEMICALS THROUGH GLOBAL PARTNERSHIPS

County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture and Agribusiness, Mr. Edward Sawe, hosted representatives from Nanjing Essence Fine Chemical Co. Ltd on Tuesday to explore potential collaborations to provide affordable agrochemicals to local farmers.

Nanjing Essence Fine Chemical is a Company in Nanjing, China, renowned for its research, development, and production of fine chemicals, including agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and speciality chemicals.

During the meeting, Sawe emphasized the county’s commitment to delivering suitable agrochemicals that adhere to sustainable agricultural practices.

“We are interested in providing our farmers with chemicals that not only fulfil their agricultural needs but also protect our ecosystem,” he stated.

Sawe also highlighted key achievements under Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s leadership, noting the significance of attracting investors eager to establish operations in Uasin Gishu.

He informed the Nanjing Essence representatives about the substantial progress in the construction of the County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP), with 55% of the infrastructure already completed.

“We welcome you to join us as investors in setting up factories at the Cherunya Export Processing Zone (EPZ),” said Sawe.

He further demonstrated the county’s commitment to fostering investor confidence and driving economic growth. This collaboration aligns with Governor Bii’s strategy to position Uasin Gishu as a hub for industrialization.

Mr. Thomas Zhang, Founder of the Aijin Group, led the delegation, which included General Manager Alex Qi and Business Development personnel Jessica Wang.

Zhang shared that Nanjing Essence has over a decade of experience and is capable of producing more than 1,000 different pesticide formulations tailored to customer specifications. The company has also achieved success in exporting its products to over 90 countries across regions including Asia, the Middle East, the Americas, and Europe.

Chief Officer for Agriculture Elphas Kesio, along with Sports and Youth counterpart Mr. Mark Some, welcomed the robust discussions, emphasizing the county’s openness to partners interested in investing in the agricultural sector.

With agriculture being a critical economic driver in Uasin Gishu, the introduction of affordable and effective agrochemicals is seen as essential for supporting local farmers and enhancing productivity.

Later in the day, the team visited several horticultural farms to assess crop conditions and determine the chemical needs of local farmers. Among the farms visited was Mr. Christopher Kibet’s farm in Sergoit Ward, where he grows tomatoes on four acres using drip irrigation.

They also visited Mr. Thomas’s farm in Kuinet/Kapsuswa Ward, known for his potato and cabbage cultivation. All farmers expressed their appreciation for the county’s initiative, reiterating their urgent need for affordable chemicals to sustain their enterprises.
