COUNTY SECRETARY LAUNCHES SERGOEK VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE’S NEW ADMINISTRATION BLOCK

Philip Melly, the County Secretary of Uasin Gishu County, on Wednesday presided over the launch of the Sergoek Vocational Training Centre’s new administration block.

The administration block was financed by Rafiki wa Maisha International and equipped by the County Government of Uasin Gishu through the Department of Vocational Training.

While reading a speech on behalf of Governor Jonathan Bii (EGH), the County Secretary conveyed the Governor’s gratitude for the steadfast partnership and continued support toward the county’s development agenda.

In his speech, Governor Bii noted, “Through this collaboration, we have witnessed remarkable progress, particularly in this facility, whose elevation and infrastructure development are truly commendable.”

“Vocational training lies at the heart of our vision. It is through skills development that we empower our youth, nurture self-reliance, and build a productive economy,” he added.

The Governor further revealed that plans are underway to establish three new vocational training centres in Kemeliet, Mutwot, and Bindura.

At the same time, the county is rehabilitating and modernising existing centres to ensure that youth remain competitive and industry-ready.

Claire Mathijsen Roth, President of Rafiki wa Maisha International, said the organisation believes in the transformative power of education to uplift youth and communities.

“We are proud to partner with Sergoek VTC in this endeavour.”

“This administration block we sponsored will serve as a hub for academic coordination, student services, and administrative functions, enhancing the learning environment and supporting students’ growth,” she said.

County Executive Committee Member for Vocational Training, Eng. Lucy Ng’endo revealed that the county government has purchased assorted tools and equipment for 13 vocational training centres. She urged young people to take advantage of the improved facilities by enrolling in the various centres of excellence.

She also announced that the Uasin Gishu–Tujiajiri KCB Scholarship Programme for 2026 will soon be rolled out. The programme seeks to support students from across the county, with their training fully funded through a partnership between the County Government of Uasin Gishu and the KCB Foundation.

Chief Officer for Vocational Training, Eunice Suter, affirmed that the county will continue to empower youth to work hard and acquire the skills needed to transform society.

“We appreciate Rafiki wa Maisha for the support and do not take it for granted,” she said.

Also present were Directors for Vocational Training, Phyllis Lagat, Governor’s Delivery Unit in Charles Kapkiai, Assistant Deputy Directors, Paul Sambu and Daniel Boit (Youth Affairs), Dorcas Komen (Education), among other county officials.
