COUNTY PARTNERS WITH SOCAA AND KCIC TO DEVELOP COUNTY AGRIBUSINESS STRATEGY

The County Government of Uasin, in partnership with the Society of Crop Agribusiness Advisors of Kenya (SOCAA) and the Kenya Climate Innovation Center (KCIC)on Thursday successfully concluded a three-day stakeholders workshop aimed at developing the County Agribusiness Strategy.

The workshop, which brought together key players in the agricultural sector, was held with the objective of formulating a comprehensive strategy to boost agribusiness in Uasin County.

During the workshop, CECM for Agriculture, Mr. Edwards Sawe, and Agriculture Chief Officer Mr. Elphas Kesio expressed their admiration for the collaborative efforts of the team, highlighting the participants dedication and commitment towards the development of the County Agribusiness Strategy.

CECM stressed the significance of including the cooperative movement in the Agribusiness plan.

“This One ward One cooperative is the recommended approach, and I encourage you to integrate it into the agribusiness strategy,” stated Sawe.

Acknowledging the substantial contribution of farmers to the industry, the department actively sought their feedback to ensure the plan adequately addresses their requirements and issues.

“The County Agribusiness Strategy is a vital tool that will help us promote sustainable agriculture and address the challenges posed by climate changes…

“…this strategy will guide us in implementing innovative approaches and practices, ensuring a resilient and productive agricultural sector in Uasin County,”said Sawe.

Mr. Kesio said: “We are truly impressed by the efforts of technical team who have worked diligently to develop this strategy which will in turn enable smallholder farmers and agribusiness entrepreneurs access finance, and integrate climate-smart practices for enhanced livelihoods of the farmers therefore driving the economic growth in the county.”

The County Agribusiness Strategy aims to provide a roadmap for sustainable agricultural development in Uasin County. It encompasses various key areas, including capacity building for farmers, value addition, market linkages, and the utilization of innovative technologies.

The development of the strategy marks a significant milestone in the agricultural landscape of Uasin County. It highlights the commitment of the county government and its partners to drive sustainable development and create new opportunities in the agribusiness sector.
