COUNTY, NASCOP SENSITIZES MENTOR AND EXPERT MOTHER’S ON INFANT AND YOUNG CHILD FEEDING

The County Government of Uasin Gishu in partnership with the Ministry of Health through the Division of National AIDS and STI Control Program (NASCOP)is in the process of fast-tracking the implementation of maternal, infant and young child nutrition strategies to improve maternal nutrition, child survival, growth and development.

Speaking during the sensitization meeting of mentor mothers, expert mother and Community Health Promoters, Clinical Services Chief Officer Dr Joyce Sang highlighted the importance of proper nutrition for mothers and children by prioritizing maternal, infant, and young child nutrition to enhance maternal health, ensure child survival, promote growth, and encourage overall development.

She said the collaboration between the County and NASCOP aims to fast-track the implementation of these essential nutrition strategies since the partnership recognizes the significance of addressing nutrition within the context of HIV to achieve better health outcomes for both mothers and children.

As our mentor mothers, you play a crucial role in disseminating accurate information and providing support to mothers and caregivers by providing them with valuable insights, updates, and guidelines on infant and young child feeding practices in the context of HIV,” said Dr Sang.

The Chief Officer also acknowledged the critical role played by mentor mothers, expert mothers, and community health workers in promoting proper nutrition practices and addressing HIV-related challenges.

There is a need for continuous sensitization and training to ensure that you are equipped with the latest knowledge and best practices,” added Dr Sang.

On his part, Director of Health Services Dr Evans Kiprotich noted that the implementation of these maternal, infant, and young child nutrition strategies is expected to have a significant impact on the overall well-being of the residents by creating a healthier and more prosperous society, where mothers and children thrive.

According to County Nutritionist Susan Bett, the sensitization exercise aims at improving the lives of mothers and children by addressing nutrition challenges.

The Chief Officer also inspected the x-ray machine at Uasin Gishu County Hospital.
