COUNTY KEEN ON SOURCING OPPORTUNITIES FOR COOPERATIVE SOCIETIES AND JUA KALI SECTORS UNDER AFFORDABLE HOUSING PROJECT

The Affordable Housing Project plays a significant role in the creation of job opportunities and the growth of the economy.

In this regard, the County Government of Uasin Gishu through the Department of Trade and Cooperatives is looking into avenues where cooperative societies and the juakali sector can benefit from the multimillion housing project.

While touring the projects on Wednesday in Kimumu, Railway City and Pioneer, County Executive Committee Member for Trade and Cooperatives Martha Cheruto said some of the societies have already benefited by supplying the needed materials for construction.

“I’m here to look for more opportunities for them because we need to be part and parcel so that we can not only benefit from these projects but also grow our economy,” said Cheruto.

Secretary of Urban & Metropolitan Development in the State Department for Housing and Urban Development Eng. Benjamin.K. Njenga was on-site to oversee the construction progress and said their focus is to have the units completed as stipulated adding that most of the workers across the 5 projects are from Uasin Gishu county.

The 2300 Pioneer units which will incorporate 104 shops and a commercial house is set to also provide houses for hundreds of workers who will be working at the Export Processing Zone(EPZ) upon completion.
