COUNTY HOSTS JUKWAA LA WASOMI: YOUTH URGED TO PLAY KEY ROLE IN STRENGTHENING SECURITY

Youth in Uasin Gishu County have been urged to take an active role in promoting peace and security by promptly sharing any information related to insecurity with the County Security Committee.

Speaking during the Jukwaa La Wasomi forum held on Wednesday at the County Headquarters, County Commissioner Dr. Eddyson Nyale emphasized that young people are a vital pillar in peacebuilding efforts.

Dr. Nyale noted that the national government, in line with United Nations Security Council Resolution No. 2250, has launched a youth-centered peace initiative that acknowledges the crucial role of young people in promoting peace and resolving conflicts.

“These resolutions aim to protect you from violence while fostering mechanisms for peaceful coexistence within your communities. That’s why we urge you to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding peace,” advised Dr. Nyale.

Representing Uasin Gishu Governor H.E. Dr. Jonathan Bii, County Executive Committee Member for Trade and Cooperatives Martha Cheruto encouraged the youth to embrace unity and use their collective voice to shape a secure and prosperous future.

“The County Government is committed to ensuring that Uasin Gishu remains peaceful and secure for all. You, the youth, must be at the center of every conversation on peace and security,” reiterated Cheruto.

She further highlighted various youth-focused programs and initiatives implemented by the County Government to empower young people economically and shield them from negative influences such as drug and alcohol abuse.
