COUNTY HOLDS TALKS WITH MOI UNIVERSITY WORKERS

The County Government of Uasin Gishu will work with other stakeholders in a bid to resolve challenges of Moi University.

Speaking as she received a petition from the university staff, on behalf of Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii, Chief Officer for Education Marion Birgen said the County appreciates the contribution of the institution to the region.

The university is ranked as the second-best in Kenya, has been facing operational challenges.

CO Birgen assured the officials that the Governor will look into their issues and work to see to it that they are addressed.

“On behalf of His Excellency, Governor Jonathan Bii, I assure you that your concerns will be looked into, and action will be taken to ensure that Moi University continues to thrive as one of the country’s premier institutions,” she stated.

The CO acknowledged the cultural and economic importance of the institution, urging them to come together and build a stronger university community. “Let us all unite and build our own city, fostering both cultural and economic growth,” she remarked.

The university, with a staff of over 2,000, has been dealing with multiple internal issues, including contract workers who have not received salaries for the past 10 months.

Director of Inspectorate Cosmas Kerich his Deputy Director Aurious Menjo and Kiptanui Barno were present during the meeting.
