COUNTY BETTING ON MSMEs TO SPUR ECONOMIC GROWTH

The County Government of Uasin Gishu understands that Micro Small and Medium Enterprises are fulcrums for the growth of society.

County Secretary Mr Edwin Bett says the County takes a big interest in ensuring that MSMEs acquire finances for both start-up and expansion of businesses.

Mr Bett, speaking on Monday during a public participation on the establishment of the National Treasury’s Credit Guarantee Policy, said there are several funds and financial facilities that the County lends out.

“The County Government (of Uasin Gishu) understands that the small enterprises heavily contribute to the economic growth and health of the residents,”

“For this reason, a key focus in terms of financing and credits is given to the small and medium enterprises which are the greatest percentage in terms of trade,” said Bett.

The CS said the County Government of Uasin Gishu values the MSMEs sector and usually sponsors innovators to both national and international exhibitions.

The Inua Biashara and County Enterprise Development Fund are among the credits that the County offers at 5 per cent interest rates – the lowest in the market. The credits are fundamentally for business start-ups and expansion in different sectors.

Director of County Enterprise Development Fund, Kipleting Mengich, said getting the right policies is needed to grow and expand the sector.

Officers from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, Ministry of Cooperatives, state departments and agencies and the County Commissioner’s Office attended the public forum held at the Rift Valley Technical Training Institute.
