The County Government of Uasin Gishu is advancing its efforts to improve waste management practices.
County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Environment, Dr. Sam Kotut, on Wednesday, led the Uasin Gishu Waste Management Committee in reviewing policy draft 1, bill draft 1 and regulation waste management.
The meeting delved into key strategies aimed at revolutionizing waste management across the county, in line with the administration’s commitment to sustainable environmental solutions.
Dr. Kotut commended the committee for their hard work in drafting the policy, noting that its completion would be a pivotal step toward addressing the county’s waste challenges.
“As we refine this draft, it’s essential to recognize the impact an effective waste management policy can have on our community,” Dr. Kottut remarked. He emphasized the need for sustainable practices, drawing parallels to developed nations where waste is transformed into valuable resources that benefit society.

“Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s administration is highly focused on efficient waste management. We aim to create a system that not only tackles waste disposal but also explores the economic potential within waste management,” he added.
The draft policy outlines an approach to waste management, including improved waste collection and disposal systems, expanded recycling initiatives, and public education on the importance of environmental conservation. The committee is committed to incorporating feedback from stakeholders and the wider community to ensure the policy’s success and effective implementation.

“We are determined to raise living standards for our residents by ensuring a clean, healthy environment for everyone. This policy is a key part of that vision,” he stated.
As the committee works towards finalizing the draft, residents can anticipate a more structured and efficient waste management system that promotes recycling and sustainability.
