CO-OPERATIVE REGULATIONS, POLICIES TO AID IN REALIZING GROWTH AND SUSTAINABILITY-CECM CHERUTO

There’s a need for the enactment of Cooperative Societies Regulations and Policies to enable the County Government to have laws that govern them for growth and sustainability.

This was the statement of County Executive Committee Member for Trade and Cooperatives Martha Cheruto while playing host to officials of Moi University Savings and Credit Society (Musco) on Monday led by the society’s chair Joshua Choge.

During the meeting they deliberated on among others, drawing of the property, ways of reviving the societies and the need to mobilize and sensitize members to continue with the society.

Cheruto pointed out issues of governance as a major factor affecting the growth of societies assuring the delegation of Governor Jonathan Bii’s support to see the society back on track.

In 2019, the National Commissioner for Cooperatives placed the society under liquidation after the alleged embezzlement of funds by then, senior officials.

According to Choge, plans are underway to revive the society for members to continue transacting their businesses noting that already established committees based on terms of reference to scrutinise and try to find out possible ways of reviving it are underway.
