CLIMATE CHANGE STEERING COMMITTEE TRAINED ON CLIMATE CHANGE MATTERS

The Department of Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change on Wednesday carried out a capacity building session for the County Climate Change Steering Committee.

Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor H.E Eng John Barorot noted the need to integrate all climate change matters into various aspects of decision making, policies and actions across all the different sectors and level of governance.

“Climate change is a cross cutting matter that requires a sustainable response to the challenges facing communities which in turn will help build their resilience,”added Eng Barorot.

The Deputy Governor further said that capacity building of key climate change players is crucial in tackling climate change since they do decisions based on the knowledge they have.

Financing locally led climate change (FLLoCA) program funded by World Bank through the National treasury in collaboration with the ministry of Environment works to support community-driven projects and in empowering residents.

This includes directing funding towards sustainable energy solutions, resilience-building measures, and capacity-building efforts within communities most affected by climate change.

Among the Climate Change steering committee members present included the County Executives Dr. Sam Kotut (Water, Irrigation, Sanitation, Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change), Dr Abraham Serem (Health Services) Chief Officer Mary Kerich ( Energy, Environment and Climate Change), Elijah Koech (Water) among other key players in the climate change sectors
