The County Government of Uasin Gishu has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the Chagaiya High Altitude Training Camp in Kesses Sub-County, with both the Executive and the County Assembly pledging united support to fast-track the long-awaited project.
This was the central message on Wednesday when the County Assembly’s Committee on Youth Affairs and Sports visited the site for inspection. The committee, led by Chairperson Hon. Gilbert Lagat (MCA, Kiplombe Ward), emphasized the urgency of completing the facility to unlock its economic and sporting potential for the local community.
“It’s time to get this done. The people have waited long enough, and we must deliver,” said Hon. Lagat.

Committee Vice Chairperson Tabitha Wambui echoed this sentiment, stating that the committee will conduct regular follow-ups to ensure progress stays on track.
Tarakwa Ward MCA Hon. Thomas Yego underscored the socio-economic impact the camp will bring to Chagaiya residents, noting that once complete, the facility will open doors to numerous local opportunities.
Hon. Nathan Malamoch (MCA, Segero/Barsombe) stressed that the oversight team will maintain a strong presence on-site to ensure the contractor meets both timeline and quality standards.
Chief Officer for Youth Affairs and Sports, CPA Victorine Kapkiai, lauded the collaborative approach between the two arms of government and assured that the executive will fully support efforts to bring the project to completion.
Ayax Investment Limited, the contractor on site, assured county officials of their commitment to deliver the facility according to required specifications and standards.
Once complete, the Chagaiya High Altitude Training Camp is expected to serve not only local athletes but also attract elite international sports professionals preparing for global competitions.
The North Rift region has long been a training ground for champions such as multiple Olympic gold medalist Mo Farah, who have benefited from its high-altitude conditions.
The camp is poised to position Uasin Gishu as a premier destination for global sports tourism and a vital hub for nurturing athletic talent.
