Construction of the Lelkoin Water Project, a Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) initiative, has officially commenced in Kipsomba Ward, Soy Sub-County, following the handover of the project site to the contractor on Tuesday, August 4.

The project entails the rehabilitation of a natural spring, the construction of a 50-cubic-metre sump tank and a 24-cubic-metre still tank, the installation of a rising main, a solar-powered water system, and distribution pipelines to ensure a reliable water supply to the surrounding communities.

Engineers overseeing the project, Eng. Chris Mbevi and Eng. Ndasaba Francis, expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, noting that the works are on schedule. They said the project is expected to be completed within a month, after which more than 200 households and nearby institutions, namely Cheplelaibei Primary and Secondary, Cheplelaibei Dispensary, Cheplelaibei Centre, and surrounding churches, will benefit from access to safe and reliable water.

Beyond improving access to clean water, the FLLoCA-funded initiative is expected to strengthen climate resilience by supporting irrigation, enhancing sustainable water management, and improving the livelihoods of residents in the area.

The Lelkoin Water Project forms part of the Uasin Gishu County Government’s commitment under Nguzo 7 of the “Mache Biko Beko” campaign, which seeks to ensure residents across the county have access to safe, reliable, and sustainable water services.
