UASIN GISHU TRAINS ECDE COORDINATORS ON DIGITIZATION

The County Government of Uasin Gishu, in collaboration with Nairobi-based business incubator iHub, has launched a two-day training program for Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) coordinators on digitizing learning for young learners.

The digital literacy initiative will be piloted in ten learning centres across the county during the first phase.

Speaking when she officially opened the training, Chief Officer for Education, Eunice Suter, reaffirmed the county government’s support for the project, highlighting its importance in helping local learners remain competitive.

“With strengthened partnerships such as the one with iHub, this Digital Literacy Initiative targeting early childhood education centres ensures that digital learning can begin with the youngest learners,” she said.

She further noted that the project is planting a seed of innovation, creativity, and prosperity among learners, as digital skills increasingly become essential in education.

Director for Education, Peter Ruto, also emphasized the county’s commitment to supporting ECDE teachers in implementing the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), noting that digital readiness is critical to CBC’s success.

On his part, SEF Project Lead, Harry Ochieng, said:

“We look forward to close collaboration with the Uasin Gishu County Government, particularly the Department of Education, to bring transformative impact to learners through this digital literacy program—not only for immediate outcomes but also for their long-term prosperity.”

He added that the project is committed to preparing learners for the future by equipping them with essential digital skills.

The program seeks to improve learning outcomes, particularly in literacy and numeracy. Digital tools provided to trained teachers will include structured lesson plans and real-time, personalized assessment tools to monitor learners’ progress.

The training forms part of the Sub-Saharan Africa EdTech Fund initiative, which aims to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy among ECDE learners across the region. The program is currently being implemented in Kenya and Nigeria, with pilot projects in four Kenyan counties: Nairobi, Kajiado, Mombasa, and Uasin Gishu.

Present at the event were the Director for Vocational Training, Phyllis Lagat; Deputy Director for Education (Administration), Wilson Sawe; Deputy Director of Education, Pius Mosbei; and Quality Assurance Officer, Sharon Amai.
