The Uasin Gishu County Rehabilitation and Treatment Centre in Moiben is strengthening its holistic approach to substance abuse recovery by equipping clients with practical life skills to support their reintegration into society.
Beyond providing treatment and rehabilitation services, the facility is exposing clients to income-generating activities aimed at promoting self-reliance, personal growth and sustainable livelihoods after recovery.
On Tuesday, Facility Manager Carolyn Cheboi led clients on a learning visit to Maraba Farm, also known as Solid Rock Kabiyet Farm, in Moiben, where they gained practical insights into modern agricultural practices.
The farm integrates fish farming, horticulture and greenhouse farming, offering clients an opportunity to learn diverse agricultural techniques that could be adopted as viable economic ventures upon completing their rehabilitation programme.

While delivering a message from ADCB Director Koiya Arap Maiyo, Cheboi said the initiative forms part of the centre’s broader commitment to holistic rehabilitation. She noted that equipping clients with practical skills is essential in preparing them for life beyond the facility.
She observed that exposure to productive activities helps clients discover their potential, build confidence and explore opportunities for self-employment, ultimately reducing their vulnerability to substance abuse relapse.
Maraba Farm Director Ruth Maraba emphasised the importance of empowering recovering individuals with practical knowledge and skills that can enable them to become productive members of society.
She noted that agriculture presents opportunities for entrepreneurship, job creation and income generation, encouraging clients to embrace the lessons learned and consider farming as a pathway to economic independence.
The learning visit underscores the county government’s commitment to a comprehensive rehabilitation model that combines treatment, psychosocial support and practical skills development to help individuals overcome substance dependence and rebuild their lives.
