Maintenance and replacement of street lights are ongoing across Uasin Gishu County as efforts to improve lighting, enhance security and create safer environments in urban centres and rural trading centres gather pace.

The ongoing exercise was witnessed in Racecourse Ward, where Chief Officer for Environment and Energy, Mr Mark Some, joined area MCA Amos Kiptanui and Deputy Director Isaac Kurgat to assess the progress of the works.

The exercise targets street lighting infrastructure across the city and rural centres, with teams undertaking maintenance of faulty lights and replacing damaged or non-functional installations to ensure reliable illumination along key roads and public spaces.

Some of the areas that have already benefited from the programme include Kesses–St Catherine to Police Station, St Augustine Catholic Church to Kesses Sub-County Hospital, Mugundoi VTC, Chemenei Centre, Ngeria Junction, Kapsoya MTRH Pass to Odeon, Kipkenyo–Koshin to Kipkenyo Dispensary, Kisor Dispensary to Simbi, Solo Estate, Kimumu Junction, Kiplombe Centre and Ziwa–Sirikwa–Lanteens.

The maintenance programme is expected to improve visibility along roads and pedestrian routes, particularly during evening and night hours, while supporting security and enabling businesses and other activities to continue safely after dark.

The continued investment in street lighting also complements efforts to improve public infrastructure and services across the county, with more urban and rural centres expected to benefit as the exercise progresses.
