The County Government of Uasin Gishu has recorded an overall performance of 65 per cent in the 2026 County Readiness Assessment, reflecting progress in strengthening health systems and service delivery across the county.

The results were presented by Newton Odunga of AMPATH Uzima during a feedback meeting that reviewed performance across 10 key areas. Various county departments were commended for their progress, while areas requiring further improvement were also highlighted.

County Executive Committee Member for Health Services Janet Kurgat praised county teams for their commitment and achievements, saying the county has a strong team capable of transforming healthcare services for residents. She urged staff to build on the progress made and aim for even better results.

Kurgat also noted that Uasin Gishu ranked second nationally in vaccine uptake, reaffirming the county’s commitment to improving healthcare and supporting the common mwananchi.

Chief Officer for Preventive and Promotive Services Dr. Billy Lubanga thanked AMPATH Uzima for its continued partnership with the County Government of Uasin Gishu, noting that the collaboration has significantly strengthened health services.

The meeting also focused on the ongoing transition between AMPATH Uzima and the County Government of Uasin Gishu, with discussions centred on accountability, sustainability, and continuity of health services. The asset handover was highlighted as a major milestone in the transition.

Chief Officer for Clinical Services Ambrose Tarus congratulated the teams for the progress achieved and urged them to sustain the momentum while addressing gaps identified through the assessment.

The meeting was attended by CECM Edward Sawe, Chief Officers Dr. Paul Wangwe, Marion Birgen, Nixon Cheplong and County Attorney Sylvester Metto, Professor Sylvester Kimaiyo Chief of Party, AMPATH Uzima, departmental directors and members of the AMPATH Uzima transition committee.

The assessment will provide a basis for the county and AMPATH Uzima to strengthen collaboration, address identified gaps, and further improve healthcare service delivery for the people of Uasin Gishu.
