The County Government of Uasin Gishu and the City of Eldoret have rolled out preparations for the upcoming Mashujaa Day celebrations set for October 2026.

The County Government, as the stakeholder of the upcoming event, held ongoing planning meetings on Tuesday, led by County Secretary Mr. Phillip Melly and departmental directors, during which it outlined key responsibilities to ensure the national event is marked with dignity, order, and pride.

According to the departmental brief, various county departments have been tasked with specific roles.

The City of Eldoret, led by the City Manager Elzeba Busienei, will oversee the cleaning of city streets and the painting of business buildings to give the city a facelift ahead of the celebrations.

The Department of PSM and Administration will handle branding, including flags, mobilization of wananchi for the celebrations, and coordination of the parade.

Other key assignments include street lighting by the Department of ICT, identification of roads to be rehabilitated by the Roads Department, entertainment programs by the Department of Culture, and public health services and ambulance provision by the Department of Health.

Speaking after the meeting, county officials emphasized the need for inter-departmental coordination to deliver a seamless event that honors Kenya’s heroes while showcasing Eldoret City.

Residents are expected to turn out in large numbers as the county gears up to host one of the country’s key national celebrations.

The celebrations rotate host counties each year, and this year 20th, October 2026, will be the 63rd Mashujaa Day since Kenya attained independence in 1963.
