The roll-out of Governor Jonathan Chelilim’s Men’s Football Tournament has gathered momentum, with football teams across Uasin Gishu County receiving playing uniforms and footballs in preparation for the much-anticipated competition.

On Wednesday, Chief Officer for Water, Irrigation and Sanitation, Elijah Koech, represented Governor Chelilim during an engagement with teams in Moiben Sub-county, where he presided over the distribution of uniforms to teams from Sergoit and Karuna/Meibeki wards.

He was accompanied by Moiben Sub-county Administrator Orbert Tanui, Sergoit Ward Member of the County Assembly David Keitany, and the Sergoit Ward Administrator.

While conveying Governor Chelilim’s message, Koech reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to empowering young people through sports. He noted that the Governor’s Annual Tournament is a key initiative under Nguzo 5 of the county’s development agenda, which seeks to nurture youth talent, promote social cohesion, create lasting community benefits, and enhance economic opportunities through sports.

“The tournament is more than a competition. It is an investment in our youth, providing a platform to showcase talent, foster discipline, strengthen community unity, and inspire positive social transformation,” Koech said.

The ongoing distribution of sports kits across all sub-counties underscores the County Government’s commitment to ensuring every participating team is adequately equipped ahead of the tournament.

The initiative has been warmly received by players and residents, with participating teams expressing enthusiasm as they prepare for the kickoff of the competition and the opportunity to compete for top honours.
