GOVERNOR BII WRAPS UP WARD-LEVEL BURSARY DISBURSEMENTS, AFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO ACCELERATE DEVELOPMENT ACROSS THE COUNTY

Uasin Gishu Governor H.E Dr. Jonathan Bii, EGH, on Tuesday concluded the countywide bursary disbursement exercise, fulfilling his administration’s commitment to distribute bursary funds across all 30 wards.

Speaking during the event, the Governor announced that his administration had completed the issuance of bursary cheques worth KSh 186.5 million, benefiting 24,949 needy students across the county.

“We are accelerating our development agenda by ensuring that every ward benefits from transformative projects that improve livelihoods and expand opportunities for our people,” said Governor Bii.

“In Kapkures Ward, we have completed seven ECDE classrooms at Sigaon, Lamaiywet, Ndabarnach, Maendeleo, Kabianga, Kipketiengwet, and Cheptarit,” he added.

The Governor further noted that development efforts in Moi’s Bridge Ward are equally evident through the completion of Mukuyuni ECDE and the ongoing construction of Sayuni ECDE, alongside new ECDE classrooms in Bwayi, Nabiswa, Ex-Gallan, Tenai, Kilima, Natwana, Bondeni, Mukunga, and Jabali.

The bursary programme will support students enrolled in secondary schools, technical institutions, KMTC campuses, colleges, and universities.

Under the initiative, 1,400 students in Moi’s Bridge Ward benefited from bursaries worth KSh 6 million, while KSh 4 million was allocated to support 1,133 needy learners in Kapkures Ward.

In Ziwa Ward, 1,430 students benefited from KSh 5 million, while 1,170 students in Segero/Barsombe Ward received support through a KSh 6 million allocation. These were the four wards visited by the Governor on Tuesday, the final day of the bursary issuance exercise.

“We are deliberate about the direction our county is taking in matters of education, with a strong focus on supporting less privileged students,” the Governor said.

Governor Bii noted that taking bursary disbursement to the grassroots level had also provided an opportunity to engage directly with residents, in line with the spirit of the Constitution.

Deputy Governor Hon. Evans Kapkea described education as the great equalizer and challenged beneficiaries to make good use of the support they had received.

“Make a decision that will make a difference in your life. Use this support as a catalyst for success,” Kapkea advised the 24,949 beneficiaries.

County Executive Committee Member for Education, Eng. Lucy Ng’endo, emphasized the need for ECDE teachers to deliver quality services through proper lesson preparation, planning, and professional development.
