GOVERNOR BII ANNOUNCES MAJOR MILESTONE FOR ELDORET SMART CITY PROJECT

H.E. Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim has announced a major milestone in Eldoret’s transformation agenda after the National Treasury’s Public Private Partnership (PPP) Committee approved the Eldoret Solar Street Lighting Project to proceed to the contracting and commencement stage.

Speaking after a high-level briefing held today in Nairobi, the Governor described the approval as a defining moment in the realization of Eldoret’s smart city vision.

“Our City of Champions is about to shine brighter than ever. This approval marks a significant step towards building a safer, greener, and digitally connected Eldoret,” said Governor Bii.

The transformative project will deliver over 20,000 solar-powered LED streetlights, 500 AI-enabled CCTV cameras, 200 kilometres of high-speed fibre optic network, public WiFi, and a 24/7 command and control centre.

“This initiative will not only improve security and connectivity, but also enhance the quality of life for our people and position Eldoret as a model smart city for the region,” the Governor added.

Governor Bii made the announcement following consultations with National Treasury Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo, alongside the Principal Secretary for Economic Planning, Public Investments, Roads and Infrastructure, the Solicitor General, the National Treasury, and the Director General of PPP with his secretariat.

The project is expected to accelerate sustainable urban development and strengthen Eldoret’s standing as a leading hub for innovation, investment, and modern infrastructure.
