County Executive for Health Services, Janet Kurgat and her Finance and Economic Planning counterpart, Micah Rogony, have issued a firm call for financial discipline across health facilities, urging managers to align their budgets strictly with available resources.
Speaking during a consultative session that brought together facility managers, accountants, and procurement officers, the two executives emphasized that each health facility bears the responsibility of developing its own realistic and sustainable budget.
Kurgat underscored the importance of fiscal accountability, noting that overbudgeting often leads to strained service delivery.
“Facilities must plan within their means. Effective healthcare begins with responsible financial management,” she said.
Mr Rogony echoed the sentiment, adding that decentralized budgeting empowers facilities to address their unique needs more efficiently.

However, he cautioned that autonomy must be matched with discipline and transparency.
The session also provided a platform for robust engagement on procurement and tendering processes, areas frequently cited as bottlenecks in public health systems.
Participants exchanged insights on best practices, compliance requirements, and ways to enhance efficiency while maintaining integrity in procurement procedures.
Attendees welcomed the discussion, describing it as timely and practical amid increasing pressure on health systems to deliver quality services with limited resources.
Chief Officers Ambrose Tarus (Clinical Services) and Dr Paul Wangwe (Promotive and Preventive Health) reaffirmed the departmental commitment to strengthening financial management systems, signaling that such engagements will continue as part of broader efforts to improve healthcare delivery.
