COUNTY SUPPORTING PARTNERS TO GROW SPORTS TALENT

The County Government of Uasin Gishu is taking a leading role in supporting the growth of the Chepsaita Cross Country Run, a World Athletics Gold Label race.

Led by Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii, the County is a key partner in the international event, providing road equipment, technical support, as well as health and emergency services.

Speaking during the media launch at the Chepsaita venue, County Executive for Sports, Robert Kemei, reaffirmed the County’s commitment to this year’s edition of the race, scheduled for December 6, 2025.

Mr. Kemei emphasized that, as a recognized powerhouse in athletics and other sporting disciplines, Uasin Gishu remains committed to nurturing talent across the region.

He further noted that his department will continue working closely with partners to enhance and expand sports programs within the county.

Mr. Kemei was joined by various Members of County Assembly, his colleagues Lucy Ng’endo (Education), Dr. Abraham Serem (Roads), and the Chief Officer for Sports, CPA Victorine Kapkiai.

At least 10,000 athletes are expected to participate in the race, which offers a top prize of Ksh 750,000 in the elite category. According to Race Patron Faruk Kibet, cash prizes will be awarded up to position 30.

With the theme “Running for Education,” the race also seeks to raise funds to support school fees for thousands of deserving children across Uasin Gishu County at various levels of education.
