In a bold push to tackle climate change and boost rural incomes, the County Government of Uasin Gishu on Monday distributed coffee seedlings to farmers in Tapsagoi Ward, Turbo Sub-County. The initiative, under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) program, aims to introduce climate-resilient, high-value crops that support environmental conservation and economic empowerment. The distribution was led by County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Water, Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Anthony Sitienei, accompanied by Chief Officer Mr. Mark Some, Director of Environment Mr. Kipchumba Barno, FLLoCA Coordinator Ms. Abigael Kibet, and other senior county officials. Mr. Sitienei described the exercise as part of a broader strategy to secure livelihoods while restoring the environment, noting coffee’s potential to drive long-term transformation in rural communities.
According to Chief Officer Mark Some, the project underscores strong collaboration between departments such as environment, agriculture, and energy—an approach he said is critical to ensuring impactful service delivery at the grassroots. FLLoCA Coordinator Abigael Kibet noted that the program is built on community input and priorities, adding that local ownership remains key to achieving long-term climate resilience. Uasin Gishu continues to lead from the front, leveraging agriculture to tackle climate risks while uplifting rural livelihoods.
