County Executive for Agriculture, Mr. Edward Sawe, On Tuesday, led a team of County officials in an inspection of multiple county farms in Turbo Sub-County scheduled for the development of a new coffee milling plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plan to set up a coffee milling plant in Turbo Sub-County has generated anticipation from local farmers, with stakeholders eagerly awaiting the potential economic advantages it could bring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CECM Sawe said that the choice of location is crucial not only for logistical reasons but also for its potential to positively impact local farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Selecting the right location is essential not just for logistical reasons but also for its potential positive effects on local farmers and the broader community.”<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

According to Mr Sawe, the county is ensuring that the plant will be strategically positioned to benefit the maximum number of stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The construction of this milling plant is a crucial step forward in enhancing the coffee value chain. It aligns with our administration’s strategy to empower farmers and improve their livelihoods,” he stated.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Sawe highlighted the Governor’s initiative of distributing coffee seedlings to local farmers, noting that the new milling facility would provide the necessary infrastructure for processing coffee, enabling farmers to reap greater benefits from their produce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have a program in place where the county government will provide free sunflower seedlings for farmers to plant after the maize harvest. Sunflowers are a valuable crop that can provide both income and nutritional benefits,” he remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Officer for Agriculture Mr. Elphas Kesio, who accompanied CECM Sawe during the exercise, echoed the call for crop diversification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He highlighted the importance of educating farmers on the benefits of incorporating various crops into their farming systems, which can mitigate risks and maximize yields.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
