The County Government of Uasin Gishu in partnership with the National Government on Wednesday hosted a public participation exercise on the Railway Bill 2024 at the County Hall. The event aimed to gather input from residents as the country prepares to amend the existing legislative framework governing the railway sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the exercise, the County Executive for Roads Eng. Joseph Lagat emphasized the importance of the Bill, stating that its amendments will significantly enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of operations within the railway sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proposed amendments to the Railway Act are expected to facilitate the establishment of urban public transport systems, improve safety protocols, and regulate economic activities within the rail sector. Additionally, the Bill aims to open access to railway infrastructure for various operators, which will likely encourage competition and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eng. Lagat further highlighted that the new legislation will enable training and research opportunities, fostering advancements in the railway sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eng. Fredrick Kabunge from the Ministry of Roads and Transport noted that the Bill aligns with regional and international transport conventions pointing out that it incorporates guidelines aimed at promoting economic growth and efficiency in rail transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The residents who participated expressed optimism that the amendments to the Railway Bill will not only bolster local transport infrastructure but also align with national and international practices in rail service delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
