Chief officer for Social protection, Eunice Suter, has called on families to plant trees in their homestead, in a bid to mitigate worldwide hazards of climate change and global warming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a speech read by the Director for Social Protection, Peter Ruto, on Wednesday during International Day of families held at Jua Kali, Turbo Sub county, Suter said as stewards of environment, its incumbent for all to harness the opportunity presented by changing climate<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLet\u2019s seize the moment to plant trees and safeguard our planet for future generations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEnvironmental conservation begins at home, within the nurturing embrace of our families,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The International Day of Families is celebrated every year on May 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The theme of this year is\u2019 Climate Change and impact on families well-being \u2018.The day focuses on how the most pressing issue of our times, climate change, affects families and the role they play in climate action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are all aware of the profound impact of climate change on our communities in the current circumstances we are in. Let\u2019s heed to the clarion call from the President and plant tress,\u201d the CO said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also reiterated her commitment to strengthening and empowering family as it knows no bounds noting that through capacity-building programs, the department has empowered families to access funds through advocating for groups and registration.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The Chief Officer also revealed that, the county has forged a partnership with Moi University to develop innovative mechanisms to strengthen the fabric of families hence ensuring their resilience in the face of challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judith Baraza, from state department for social protection on her part said through family and community initiatives, \u201cwe can foster climate action with education, access to information, training and community participation,”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said this year\u2019s theme seeks to highlight how climate change disrupts families’ lives citing the recent floods and what families can do to fight back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Baraza further said by raising awareness of these issues, \u201cwe can all work together to support families and help them thrive\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
