Uasin Gishu County farmers are set to benefit from an innovative poultry feed production strategy aimed at enhancing agricultural practices and supporting the region’s farming community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Department of Livestock and Fisheries, in conjunction with Utunzi Animal Welfare Organisation, on Friday convened a discussion centered around enhancing agricultural practices and supporting the region’s farming community.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Speaking while leading the discussion, Chief Officer for Livestock, Mr. Nixon Cheplong, highlighted the shortage of fertilized eggs needed for incubators provided to farmers’ groups under Governor Bii’s administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“These fertilized eggs play in the success of poultry farming initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of farmers in the region” stated Cheplong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acknowledging this critical issue, the County Government and Utunzi Animal Welfare Organization have joined forces to tackle the problem by adopting a production system that allows birds to exhibit their natural behaviours, emphasizing the importance of enabling animals to express their inherent characteristics beyond the constraints of cages.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Another concern addressed during the discussion was the exorbitant prices and scarcity of poultry feeds, a challenge commonly faced by farmers in Uasin Gishu and across Kenya. In response to this issue, Utunzi Animal Welfare Organization is exploring the possibility of engaging in large-scale production of black soldier flies, renowned for their high crude protein levels based on research findings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Officer Cheplong emphasized the county’s dedication to carrying out sustainable and efficient strategies, including the development of high-protein poultry feed options, which was part of Governor Bii’s election pledge.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
