{"id":6909,"date":"2024-02-23T12:06:00","date_gmt":"2024-02-23T09:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uasingishu.go.ke\/?p=6909"},"modified":"2024-02-28T08:11:48","modified_gmt":"2024-02-28T05:11:48","slug":"farmers-challenged-to-embrace-modern-agricultural-practices-for-sustainability-and-productivity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uasingishu.go.ke\/index.php\/farmers-challenged-to-embrace-modern-agricultural-practices-for-sustainability-and-productivity","title":{"rendered":"FARMERS CHALLENGED TO EMBRACE MODERN AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES FOR SUSTAINABILITY AND PRODUCTIVITY"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The County Government of Uasin Gishu is keen in prioritizing the importance of adhering to good agricultural practices as farmers gear up for the upcoming planting season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chief Officer for Agriculture, Mr. Elphas Kesio highlighted the significance of adopting modern techniques that reflect Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii&#8217;s commitment to sustainable farming and the well-being of local farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kesio who conducted an inspection exercise at Chebororwa ATC farm emphasized the benefits of embracing modern agricultural practices such as minimum tillage or no-till methods instead of traditional ploughing for preparing maize farms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"629\" data-id=\"6910\" src=\"https:\/\/uasingishu.go.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/WhatsApp-Image-2024-02-23-at-15.12.18.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6910\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uasingishu.go.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/WhatsApp-Image-2024-02-23-at-15.12.18.jpeg 720w, https:\/\/uasingishu.go.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/WhatsApp-Image-2024-02-23-at-15.12.18-300x262.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He encouraged farmers to utilize County machinery at Agricultural Mechanization Services to enhance their farming processes and improve efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CO further called on farmers to avoid excessive ploughing and embrace agricultural practices that can enhance productivity, protect the environment, and secure a prosperous future for themselves and future generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>&#8220;The shift towards minimum tillage or no-till farming is gaining momentum due to its numerous advantages, including preserving soil structure, reducing erosion, and enhancing water retention for improved crop yields and long-term sustainability<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>\u2026by minimizing soil disturbance, farmers can also contribute to carbon segregation and combat the effects of climate change,&#8221; said Kesio.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also encouraged farmers to leverage modern equipment available at the Agricultural Mechanization Services (AMS) to alleviate physical strain and enhance the economic viability of their farming operations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The County Government of Uasin Gishu is keen in prioritizing the importance of adhering to good agricultural practices as farmers gear up for the upcoming planting season.
