To promote environmental conservation and sustainable farming practices, The County Government of Uasin Gishu through the Agricultural Sector Development Support Program II (ASDSP II) on Friday conducted a tree planting exercise under the Jazamiti initiative at Cheplelaibei Primary School and Kipsomba in Kipsomba Ward, Soy Sub-County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tree planting exercise that was graced by the County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture, Mr. Edward Sawe together with Chief Officers Elphas Kesio (Agriculture) and Nixon Cheplong (Livestock) saw over 1000 trees of avocado, pine and cypress planted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the event, Sawe emphasized on the need to take advantage of the short rains to engage in tree-planting activities further highlighting the numerous benefits of trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CECM Sawe also stressed the importance of viewing agriculture as a business. He said that in today’s world, agriculture is not just a means of subsistence but also a potential source of income,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is essential for farmers to adopt a business mindset to succeed in this field,” said Sawe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CECM Sawe further noted the significance of record-keeping for farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keeping track of expenses, revenues, and profits enables farmers to have a clear understanding of the financial aspects of their business,” said Sawe.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Sawe acknowledged the favourable soil conditions in the region that make farmers diversify their agricultural activities and explore different crops that could thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CECM Sawe also took the opportunity to praise the hard work and dedication of the officers in the department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stressed that trees play a crucial role in mitigating climate change and promoting biodiversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a Department, we want to express our support for the initiative to plant oil crops and I want to encourage you as residents to embrace the cultivation of these crops so that you can benefit economically from oil crops, such as avocado,” said Sawe.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Agriculture Chief Officer Elphas Kesio said that through the tree planting exercise, Governor Jonathan Bii’s administration is committed to environmental sustainability and agricultural development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On his part, Livestock Development Chief Officer Nixon Cheplong added that the partnership with ASDSP II has allowed for the successful implementation of the Jazamiti initiative, which aims to promote tree planting and sustainable farming practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Directors Reuben Seroney (Agriculture), Abraham Kiptanui (Livestock), ASDSP II Coordinator Mr Peter Shitoka, Haron Suge, a former South Sudan Ambassador, chiefs, teachers, and students, among other attendees present during the tree planting exercise.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
