Breast cancer continues to disrupt the lives of many women and families in Uasin Gishu, making timely diagnosis, treatment and community support more urgent than ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Against this backdrop, the County Government of Uasin Gishu is strengthening partnerships aimed at bringing cancer awareness, screening, treatment and patient support closer to residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This commitment was highlighted when Pfizer Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Albert Bourla and his senior executive team visited Kapsoya Health Centre, where they interacted with Community Health Promoters, breast cancer survivors and county health officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit provided an opportunity to witness the impact of the Pfizer Foundation-supported Integrated Model for Access, Retention and Advanced Breast Cancer Care (IMARA-BC), implemented through Moi University\/AMPATH.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three-year programme is helping improve the cancer care journey for women by strengthening access to timely breast cancer diagnosis and treatment while providing support to patients and survivors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For residents, the impact is being felt at community level. Community Health Promoters are reaching households with information on breast cancer, encouraging residents to seek screening and medical attention early, and linking those who require further care to health facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This community-based approach is particularly important in ensuring that breast cancer is identified early, when patients have a better opportunity to access appropriate treatment and care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Kapsoya Health Centre, breast cancer survivor Sharon Jemutai shared her personal experience of diagnosis and treatment, urging residents not to ignore symptoms or delay seeking medical attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her experience also highlighted the importance of continued support for patients after diagnosis. Sharon expressed appreciation for the support provided through the Pfizer Foundation and IMARA-BC, including assistance with medication and other essential healthcare services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

County Executive Committee Member for Health Services Janet Kurgat said the County Government remains committed to ensuring residents have access to quality cancer prevention, screening and treatment services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00ab<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs a County Government, we remain committed to strengthening cancer prevention and care through increased screening, improved health data and continuous capacity building for our healthcare workers. Our Community Health Promoters are also instrumental in reaching households, creating awareness and linking people to health facilities for screening, treatment and follow-up,\u201d said Kurgat.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The partnership is also strengthening the capacity of the local health system by supporting healthcare workers with knowledge and skills needed to improve cancer care and strengthening the connection between community-based services and health facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the visit, Pfizer Chairman and CEO Albert Bourla noted that cancer continues to affect many families, with breast cancer among the most common cancers affecting women and prostate cancer a significant concern among men.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bourla reaffirmed Pfizer\u2019s commitment to advancing science and supporting access to medicines, while recognising the importance of partnerships with local health systems in translating innovation and investment into better health outcomes for communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
