Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare services through innovative and people-centered interventions under Nguzo Number 2 of the Nguzo Kumi Agenda, which prioritizes quality and accessible healthcare for all residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Governor’s vision continues to guide efforts aimed at improving service delivery and ensuring that essential health services reach every community across Uasin Gishu County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of this commitment, the County Department of Health conducted a sensitization meeting on the Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Innovation Program, led by the Chief Officer for Prevention and Promotive Services Dr. Billy Lubanga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The forum brought together county health officials to discuss the implementation of the initiative and its role in transforming healthcare delivery at the primary healthcare level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Officer for Preventive and Promotive Health, Dr. Billy Lubanga, emphasized the importance of complying with the relevant legal framework governing the management of health information, noting that adherence to the Act is essential in safeguarding patient rights and strengthening the healthcare system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stressed that maintaining the integrity, confidentiality, and security of patient data must remain a top priority for all stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Lubanga also expressed his appreciation to AmPATH for its continued partnership and support, describing the initiative as a significant milestone in advancing quality healthcare and reinforcing trust in health information management.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

“We must comply with the Act and uphold the integrity of patient data at every level. I sincerely thank AmPATH for their invaluable support\u2014this is a significant step forward in strengthening our healthcare system and protecting the trust that patients place in us.” He said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The POCUS Innovation Program is being rolled out through a partnership between Uasin Gishu County, AMPATH, and Population Health, leveraging the county’s Primary Healthcare Networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative adopts a Hub-and-Spoke Model, which is designed to strengthen referral systems while ensuring diagnostic services are available closer to the communities that need them most.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the rollout plan, the program will be implemented in selected Level Two health facilities, Level Three health centres, and Level Four sub-county hospitals by equipping frontline healthcare workers with point-of-care ultrasound technology and enhancing their skills. The county aims to improve early diagnosis and management of various medical conditions at the primary care level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative will focus on the early detection and management of maternal complications, heart failure, breast conditions, and pneumonia. Bringing these essential diagnostic services closer to residents is expected to reduce delays in treatment, improve referral efficiency, and enhance health outcomes, particularly for underserved and hard-to-reach communities across the county.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the sensitization meeting, Mr Elias Hussein, who is the Principal investigator Ampath POCUS project, underscored the importance of collaboration in strengthening health information management and ensuring compliance with the legal framework governing patient data. He noted that the initiative is designed to support healthcare workers in adopting best practices that protect the confidentiality, integrity, and security of patient information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Protecting patient data is a shared responsibility. Through this initiative, we are strengthening compliance with the law while equipping healthcare workers with the tools and knowledge needed to safeguard the integrity of health information. Together with our partners, we are laying the foundation for a more trusted and resilient healthcare system,” he reiterated.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
