The County Government of Uasin Gishu has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with communities to strengthen sustained sensitization and outreach programmes aimed at preventing drug and substance abuse, promoting early intervention and supporting the recovery of affected individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on Wednesday in Kimumu Ward while representing the County Director of the Alcoholic Drinks Control Board (ADCB), Koiya Arap Maiyo, during a community sensitization forum organized by SDA Jericho Church, ADCB Chief Programmes Officer Beatrice Tanui said the county is increasingly embracing community-based prevention as a key strategy in addressing drug and substance abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tanui noted that the Directorate of the Alcoholic Drinks Control Board will continue conducting regular awareness campaigns across the county to educate residents on the dangers of drug and substance abuse, encourage those battling addiction to seek treatment, and strengthen community participation in combating the vice.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

She emphasized that sustainable solutions require collective action, calling on parents, religious institutions, schools, community leaders and residents to remain vigilant, report drug traffickers and peddlers, and support individuals undergoing rehabilitation instead of subjecting them to stigma and discrimination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The fight against drugs cannot be won by the government alone. Every member of the community has a role to play in protecting our young people and creating a drug-free society,” she said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Charles Nyabayo, one of the organizers of the forum, commended the county government for partnering with faith-based organizations to take anti-drug campaigns to the grassroots, saying community engagement remains one of the most effective tools in preventing substance abuse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He observed that such forums provide residents with an opportunity to access accurate information on prevention, treatment and rehabilitation, while creating a safe space for dialogue and helping to break the stigma associated with addiction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sensitization forum brought together residents, youth, religious leaders, health professionals, and county officials, who renewed their commitment to working together to curb the growing menace of drug and substance abuse across the county.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
