The County Government of Uasin Gishu on Sunday hosted the 1st Edition KEMRI Cross Country Run and Medical Camp, bringing together athletes, health professionals, researchers and members of the public in a unique initiative aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles through sports and preventive healthcare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event, organized by the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) in partnership with KCB Bank, underscored the critical role of physical activity in disease prevention and community wellness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was flagged off by Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health Services, Janet Kurgat, who represented Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii. In her keynote address, Kurgat urged participants to view every step taken during the race as a commitment to better health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Every stride is a stride toward better health and disease prevention. Every kilometer covered is an investment in your health, your family’s health, and your community’s health. Today, every participant is sending a message that we will not accept rising rates of preventable diseases. We choose health. We choose life,” she said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

She added that the event demonstrated that science extends beyond laboratories into homes, schools, workplaces and communities, emphasizing that quality healthcare is a right that should be accessible to all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on behalf of KEMRI Director General and CEO Prof. Elijah Songok, Dr. Martin Gundi said the institute is committed to partnering with Uasin Gishu County in integrating sports and science to improve public health outcomes. He noted that KEMRI’s mandate is to support counties through research and evidence-based interventions, adding that the future of sports science in Kenya is promising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Gundi described the cross-country event as a travelling initiative that will continue reaching communities across the country and thanked Governor Dr.Jonathan Bii’s administration for the warm reception and support, describing the inaugural edition as one of the institute’s most successful outreach events.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The event also featured a medical camp that provided preventive health services to residents, reinforcing the importance of early disease detection and healthy living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Among those present was the Chief Officer for Preventive and Promotive Health Services, Dr. Lubanga, Director of Communication, Silas Tarus, alongside county officials, healthcare workers and stakeholders from KEMRI and KCB Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Organizers expressed optimism that the annual event will continue strengthening the link between scientific research, sports and community health while inspiring more Kenyans to embrace active lifestyles as a means of preventing disease and improving overall well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
