The County Government of Uasin Gishu has intensified efforts to strengthen cooperative societies through capacity-building programmes aimed at improving governance, boosting economic growth, and creating employment opportunities across the county.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on Thursday during a training session for members of more than 40 boda boda Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOs), Governor H.E Jonathan Bii said empowering cooperative societies with management and governance skills is key to ensuring sustainable economic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Governor noted that well-managed cooperatives have the potential to transform livelihoods, stimulate local economies, and create jobs, particularly among the youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe cooperative movement remains one of the strongest drivers of economic growth. By equipping SACCO leaders and members with the necessary skills, we are laying a firm foundation for wealth creation and improved livelihoods,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Governor Bii highlighted the county’s continued investment in the cooperative sector, revealing that more than KSh700 million has so far been disbursed to various cooperative societies to support enterprise development and enhance financial inclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further cited his administration\u2019s decision to reduce monthly boda boda sticker fees as part of efforts to ease the cost of doing business. The charges were reduced from KSh600 to KSh400 within Eldoret City and from KSh400 to KSh200 in rural areas, a move he said was intended to cushion operators and encourage growth within the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, the Governor challenged boda boda operators to adhere to traffic regulations and maintain discipline on the roads to enhance safety and professionalism within the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deputy Governor H.E Evans Kapkea urged members of the sector to continue working closely with the county administration to unlock more opportunities and address challenges affecting their operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

County Executive Committee Member for Trade and Cooperatives Dr. Philip Chebunet, encouraged SACCO members to embrace investment and take advantage of the County Enterprise Development Fund to expand their businesses.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Chebunet also emphasized the importance of discipline among boda boda operators, urging them to wear reflective jackets and uphold professionalism while serving the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Representatives of the Uasin Gishu County Boda Boda Union lauded the county government for harmonizing monthly sticker charges, saying the move has significantly reduced the financial burden on operators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The union further praised the digitization and automation initiatives introduced by the Department of Cooperatives, saying the reforms have improved efficiency, enhanced service delivery, and strengthened the management of cooperative societies across the county.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
