class="wp-block-paragraph">Speaking during the visit, Korir reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to supporting fish farmers through technical assistance, access to quality inputs and market linkages to ensure aquaculture remains a profitable enterprise.

Korir noted that the county’s Fish Friday initiative continues to play a key role in creating market opportunities for fish farmers by connecting producers directly with consumers while promoting the consumption of nutritious white meat among residents.

Moiben Sub-County Fisheries Officer Gladys Kiptum, who has worked closely with the farm for more than ten years, said consistent technical support and proper management practices have enabled Opande Farm to steadily grow into a successful aquaculture venture.

Beyond production support, the county Government has continued to facilitate market access for the farm through the Fish Friday programme, providing a reliable platform for farmers to sell their produce and expand their customer base.

The team later visited the farm of Mr. Silah Bore in Sergoit Ward, where the county Government supported the establishment of a fish pond through the provision of a pond liner after identifying the area as suitable for fish farming due to the availability of clean and reliable water.

Mr. Bore, a person living with disability, has successfully embraced fish farming as a source of income and empowerment. His pond has a capacity of approximately 1,000 fish and demonstrates how aquaculture can create sustainable livelihood opportunities for vulnerable members of society.

The continued success of farmers such as Opande Farm and Mr. Bore highlights the growing momentum of aquaculture in Uasin Gishu County, where more than 1,500 fish ponds carrying an estimated 1.5 million tilapia fish are contributing to food security, job creation and economic empowerment under Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii’s development agenda.

The County Government of Uasin Gishu, Directorate of Fisheries, on Thursday continued its field visits to fish farmers in Moiben Sub-County, showcasing the growing impact of county-supported aquaculture projects on […]

[94,704,1763,116,52,1783,3,7,50,8,1151
9,11,129,12
post-18006","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-agricultural-extension","category-agricultural-innovation","category-agricultural-society-of-kenya","category-agricultural-transformation","category-agriculture","category-agriculture-agribusiness-livestock-development-and-fisheries","category-city-news","category-government","category-governors-office","category-latest-news","category-livestock-and-fisheries","tag-city","tag-development","tag-efficient-service","tag-government
["GET
