Eldoret has, for decades, relished global recognition as a powerhouse of world athletics, producing a remarkable number of world, Olympic, Commonwealth and other international champions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, plans are underway to further cement the city\u2019s status on the global sporting map through the launch of the Sisibo International Marathon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) Vice President, Barnaba Korir, on Monday led a planning meeting in Eldoret as preparations for the event gather momentum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Officer for Youth Affairs and Sports, CPA Victorine Kapkiai, while leading the county officials, said the County government supports programs that seek to market Eldoret through sports.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Although still in the planning stages, the marathon is already being touted as one of Kenya\u2019s highest-paying road races. Sports talent development is a premier pillar of Governor Dr Jonathan Bii’s development plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
