The County Government of Uasin Gishu on Friday flagged off the Mental Health Awareness Day celebrations to strengthen public understanding of mental wellness and expand access to counselling services across the county.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the event, County Secretary Philip Meli said the county administration under Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii remains committed to developing counselling programs and creating safe spaces where residents, especially young people, can access mental health support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meli noted that mental health has become a critical issue affecting families, schools, and workplaces, calling for collective responsibility in addressing stigma and promoting early intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He emphasised that the county government will continue to roll out awareness campaigns to educate the public about the importance of mental wellness and seeking professional help when facing emotional or psychological challenges.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

He further challenged young people to become peer influencers and ambassadors of positive mental health among their colleagues and communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meli urged the youth to openly support one another, encourage conversations around mental health, and help create an environment where individuals feel comfortable seeking counselling and guidance without fear of discrimination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sophie Toroitich, who represented the Chief Officer for Promotive and Preventive Health Services Dr. Paul Wangwe, said mental health awareness is essential in building healthier and more productive communities. She observed that many people continue to suffer in silence due to stigma and lack of information, adding that continuous public education is necessary to encourage people to seek help early.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Toroitich reaffirmed the county health department\u2019s commitment to working closely with stakeholders, schools, health workers, and community leaders to strengthen mental health programs at the grassroots level.
