Hundreds of children with special needs in Uasin Gishu County on Thursday turned up for an assessment exercise at the ACK North Rift Rehabilitation centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exercise is being conducted by the County Government of Uasin Gishu Department of Social Protection in collaboration with Kijabe Mission Hospital, the National Government and ACK Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the exercise, Chief Officer for Social Protection and Gender, Marion Birgen, said the exercise is part of the county\u2019s efforts to support persons with special needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAn elaborate assessment has been conducted, and we are encouraged by the high turnout of children with special needs,\u201d said Birgen.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Once the assessment is completed, the county government and other supporting partners will provide guidance on the most appropriate interventions, including providing them with assistive devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chief Officer further noted that the county has intensified awareness campaigns targeting persons with special needs, describing the initiative as key to effectively addressing their challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also urged parents and guardians not to hide children living with special needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
