The County Government, with support from AMPATH and the National AIDS and STI Control Programme (NASCOP), held a one-day sensitization meeting for members of the County Health Management Team (CHMT) and Sub-County Health Management Teams (SCHMT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting focused on the introduction of new PrEP commodities, LEN and CAB-LA, aimed at strengthening HIV prevention efforts in Uasin Gishu County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sensitization highlighted HIV combination prevention strategies and the role of the new PrEP commodities in reducing new infections among the general population. The options will also support the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new interventions aim to protect pregnant and breastfeeding mothers and help reduce HIV infections among children below 14 years.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the meeting, Assistant Director for Clinical Services, Mr. Crispus Massam, emphasized the need to strengthen prevention efforts. He noted that expanding access to new PrEP options will help reduce new infections among the general population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC) estimates, Uasin Gishu County recorded 532 new HIV infections in 2025. Out of these, 131 cases involved children below 14 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The county currently has a Mother-to-Child Transmission (MTCT) rate of 15.4 per cent. This highlights the need to strengthen HIV prevention interventions and scale up innovative strategies such as LEN and CAB-LA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The county government, together with its partners, reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening HIV prevention programs and expanding access to effective PrEP services across health facilities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
