As heavy rains continue to raise concerns over potential waterborne disease outbreaks, the County Government of Uasin Gishu has intensified community preparedness efforts by equipping frontline health volunteers with critical knowledge on prevention and early response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through the Department of Health Services, in collaboration with Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS) and the Fresh Life Initiative, the county organized a one-day sensitization forum for 150 Community Health Promoters (CHPs) drawn from Langas, Huruma, and Kipkenyo wards. The engagement aimed to strengthen community awareness and response following reports of suspected diarrhoea cases in some areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sensitization session focused on enhancing the CHPs\u2019 capacity on disease prevention, water safety, sanitation practices, and community awareness. Participants were encouraged to intensify household visits and educate residents on proper hygiene practices and safe water handling to minimize the risk of disease spread within their communities.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the meeting, the County Chief Officer for Promotive and Preventive Health, Dr. Paul Wangwe, cautioned residents to remain vigilant about the safety and quality of water they consume, especially during the rainy season. He urged Community Health Promoters to intensify public sensitization on safe water use, proper waste disposal, and maintaining clean environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Wangwe emphasized that CHPs play a critical frontline role in early detection, community education, and timely reporting of suspected cases to health facilities, which is essential in preventing possible disease outbreaks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The County WASH Programme Coordinator, Mr. Jairus Mukangala, echoed the Chief Officer\u2019s call for vigilance, stressing the importance of maintaining high standards of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) at the household level to safeguard public health.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Representing the General Manager for Commercial Services at Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS), Ms. Betty Komen urged Community Health Promoters to promptly report any sewer line blockages or leakages within their communities. She noted that timely reporting allows the company to respond swiftly, preventing water losses, protecting sanitation infrastructure, and reducing potential health risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
