Uasin Gishu Governor H.E. Dr Jonathan Bii Chelilim<\/strong> has commissioned the Ngeria South Water Project<\/strong> in Megun Ward, Kapseret Sub-county<\/strong>, marking a major milestone in improving access to clean and affordable water for residents of Ngeria South and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project will directly benefit more than 1,000 households<\/strong> and four key institutions Ngeria Technical Training Institute (TTI), Ngeria Primary School, Leget Primary School, and Ngeria South Dispensary,<\/strong> enhancing water availability for domestic, educational, and healthcare use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Governor Bii challenged residents to take advantage of the improved water supply to engage in agriculture and other productive economic activities aimed at improving their livelihoods. He noted that access to water is a critical enabler of food security, income generation, and overall community development.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The Ngeria South Water Project was implemented under Nguzo No. 7<\/strong>, which focuses on improving living standards in Uasin Gishu County by ensuring affordable water and sanitation services, promoting a clean, safe, and healthy environment, and supporting the sustainable management and conservation of natural resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Project Scope<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project involved:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • Construction of an intake sump<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Installation of a solar-powered pumping system<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • An 800-metre pumping main<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • A 108-cubic-metre steel storage tank<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • A 9-kilometre water distribution line<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    Currently, 500 households across seven villages<\/strong> have been connected, alongside the four beneficiary institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The County Director for Water, Irrigation and Sanitation, Bob Busungu, and Assistant Director for Irrigation, Caroline Ngerechi, noted that future improvements to the project will include the installation of an additional pumping system and storage tank, as well as extended distribution lines to reach last-mile households, ensuring wider coverage.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

    The project was overseen by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Environment, Climate Change, Natural Resources, Water, Irrigation, Sanitation and Energy, Mr Anthony Cheruiyot Sitienei, together with the Chief Officer for Water, Irrigation and Sanitation, Mr Elijah Koech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Also present at the commissioning ceremony were the area MCA and Leader of Majority, Mr Julius Sang; Deputy Governor H.E. Hon. Evans Kapkea; CECM for Health Services, Mrs Janet Koech; and the CECM for Youth, Sports, Gender and Social Services, Mr Robert Kemei. County officials reaffirmed that service delivery under Nguzo No. 7 continues to intensify, with several water projects currently ongoing and others nearing completion, all aimed at improving access to clean water and enhancing the quality of life for residents across Uasin Gishu County.
