The County Government of Uasin Gishu has urged members of registered bodaboda Saccos to resume wearing Sacco-branded reflector jackets and helmets, and to ensure their monthly stickers are up to date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move aims to improve rider identification and strengthen enforcement, particularly against operators who do not belong to any Sacco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on Monday during a consultative meeting with leaders of all bodaboda Saccos, Acting Chief Officer for Administration Ruth Samoei, accompanied by Chief Officer for Cooperatives Elphas Kesio, emphasized the need for transport sector operators to conduct their work responsibly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She cautioned Sacco members against allowing non-members to infiltrate their ranks and tarnish the image of organized Saccos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting followed last week\u2019s demonstrations that disrupted operations for several hours after allegations emerged that some Sacco members were being harassed by county enforcement officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is our city, and we must build and protect it together because no one else will do it for us. We must therefore maintain the discipline required,\u201d said Samoei.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Kesio echoed her remarks, urging riders to consistently pay for their monthly stickers and to equip themselves with all the required safety and operational gear to ensure smooth operations and avoid unnecessary arrests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

County officials praised Sacco leaders for their continued advocacy for members\u2019 rights and their role in promoting fairness within the sector, noting that Sacco-affiliated riders are generally more organized than those operating outside established groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bodaboda sector leaders present at the meeting, led by their Union Chairman, raised concerns over growing competition from non-unionized operators and called on the county leadership to take firm action to further regulate the sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
