Hundreds of Uasin Gishu residents with special needs have turned up for an ongoing assessment exercise at the Chebolol Assessment Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exercise is being conducted by the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) in collaboration with the County Government of Uasin Gishu and the Ministry of Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gender and Social Protection Chief Officer Ms. Marion Birgen said the exercise is part of the county\u2019s efforts to support persons with special needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAn elaborate assessment has been conducted, and we are encouraged by the high turnout of persons with special needs,\u201d said Ms. Birgen.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Once the assessment is completed, KISE will provide guidance on the most appropriate interventions, including placement in suitable schools and institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chief Officer further noted that the county has intensified awareness campaigns targeting persons with special needs, describing the initiative as key to effectively addressing their challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also urged parents and guardians not to hide children living with special needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo one with special needs should be hidden. Everyone should come out, register, and access government support,\u201d she said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

On his part, KISE Director Mr. Norman Kiogora revealed that the national government plans to support the development of the Chebolol Assessment Centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
