In a major step towards transforming healthcare delivery in Uasin Gishu County, Kesses Sub County Hospital is set to be established as an Integrated Centre of Excellence for Chronic Disease Clinics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This transformative initiative will focus on the screening, diagnosis, and management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, hypertension, and mental health conditions, alongside comprehensive HIV care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement was made during a high-level meeting between county health officials and representatives from AMPATH, a long-standing partner in health systems strengthening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

County Executive Committee Member for Health Services, Joseph Lagat, highlighted the hospital\u2019s new role as a regional leader in chronic care. \u201cThis Centre of Excellence will bring together a multidisciplinary team of experts in HIV and NCD care,\u201d he said. \u201cWith the integration of Artificial Intelligence and digital systems, we aim to enhance data capture and enable smarter, faster decision-making at all levels of care.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

This move marks a significant shift towards a more holistic and technology-driven approach to tackling the dual burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases affecting thousands across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AMPATH Uzima\u2019s Chief of Party, Prof. Sylvester Kimaiyo, emphasized the centre\u2019s strategic importance: \u201cIt will serve not only as a referral hub for complex cases but also as a critical support system for lower-level facilities. We envision streamlined care pathways from community health units to high-volume facilities for severe NCDs and advanced HIV cases.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that the partnership will also prioritize sustainable access to essential NCD medications and diagnostics\u2014a challenge that has long hampered care continuity in many regions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Paul Wangwe, Chief Officer for Preventive and Promotive Health, affirmed the department’s readiness for the rollout. \u201cWe are fully committed to this integration because it aligns perfectly with our long-term vision to strengthen primary healthcare networks and deliver people-centered care.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kesses Centre of Excellence is expected to play a pivotal role not only in managing chronic diseases but also in reducing preventable deaths and improving the quality of life for patients throughout Uasin Gishu and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting was also attended by the Director of Health Services, Dr. Evans Kiprotich, and Prof. Kara Wools-Kaloustian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
