The County Government of Uasin Gishu on Thursday brought together key players in the livestock and meat industry for a high-impact stakeholder engagement forum aimed at discussing the upcoming renovation of the county’s main slaughterhouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Held at Eldoret’s main slaughterhouse, the session highlighted the county\u2019s plans to upgrade the facility into a modern, hygienic and efficient meat processing centre, a move expected to boost food safety, improve working conditions, and enhance value addition for livestock farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the critical renovations planned are plumbing and drainage overhauls, the construction of a new condemnation pit, a manure shade and upgraded holding lyrages. Also on the blueprint are a standing box, tripaly installations, CCTV surveillance, new wiring systems, and dedicated shots for goats and sheep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the engagement, Livestock Development Chief Officer Nixon Cheplong, accompanied by Director Veterinary Services Dr. Philip Biamah, emphasized the need for a modernized facility that meets both national and international standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We\u2019re not just renovating but we are transforming this slaughterhouse into a model of excellence because this is a game-changer for our farmers, traders, and the entire meat value chain,” said Cheplong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stakeholders welcomed the initiative, citing improved hygiene, better animal handling and enhanced traceability as some of the long-term benefits, adding that the inclusion of soak pits and modern waste management features also signals the county\u2019s commitment to environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On his part, Director of Veterinary Services Dr. Biamah reaffirmed his pledge to work closely with industry stakeholders throughout the renovation process, ensuring transparency, inclusivity and maximum impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
